Burglary Arrest
On June 11, 2009 the Ledyard Police Department was contacted by a resident of the Highland Section of Ledyard reporting that their home had been entered at some point during the day, and that a lap top computer was stolen. Investigation by the Patrol Division of the Ledyard Police Department quickly identified the accused and the lap top was recovered.

As a result of this investigation a juvenile male was arrested and refered to the juvenile court for the charges of Burglary in the 3rd Degree and Larceny 3rd Degree.

Four Ledyard Officers Honored by MADD
On June 11, 2009, The Connecticut Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving held its 23rd annual Appreciation Awards Ceremony at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden, CT. Four Ledyard police officers were among the honorees from police departments from all over Connecticut. Sergeant Kenneth Creutz, Officer Bobby Kempke, and Officer Rick McSwain received awards for their enforcement efforts on Ledyard’s roadways. Officer First Class Elizabeth Smith, Ledyard’s School Resource Officer, received an award in the “Education” and “Community Involvement” categories.

Officer Smith teaches DARE in Ledyard’s Elementary Schools and has also instituted a program in the Ledyard Middle School called “Take Charge of your Life”, which aims to educate 7th grade students on personal safety and responsible decision making. Officer Smith is also a member of the Ledyard Safe Teens Coalition, which provides programs to combat underage drinking in Ledyard.

Arrest in DUI Crash
On June 14, 2009 at approximately 0300hrs the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one car accident having occured on Spicer Hill Rd. On arrival Officers found a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am had traveled off the roadway, through a residential yard, and struck several trees. Investigation found evidence that the vehicle operator, Daniel Cordick DOB 3/24/1988 of 19 Mathewson Mill Rd in Ledyard, was operating under the influence. He was placed under arrest, processed, and released with a court date of 6/24/09.

Two Trees Disturbance Arrest
On June 14, 2009 the Ledyard Police Department received a complaint from the Two Trees Hotel located at # 240 Indiantown Rd. in Ledyard, that a disturbance had occured. On arrival Officers investigated and arrested Jeremy Nadeau, age 26, of 62 Garden St. in Agewam, MA for Disorderly Conduct.

Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Arrest
On June 14, 2009 the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a suspicious vehicle on Crocker Hill Rd.. Arriving Officers located the vehicle and investigation determined that the vehicles passenger, Sean Quintero DOB 09/07/1987 with a LKA of 64 Boswell Ave in Norwich had two outstanding arrest warrants for Violation of Probation. He was taken into custody on those charges.

Assault and Attempted Robbery
On June 17, 2009 at approximately 11:20pm the Ledyard Police Department received the report of an Attempted Robbery and Assault having occured in the parking lot of the Two Trees Inn at 240 Indiantown Rd in Ledyard. A limousine driver, who was parked to the rear of the parking lot, reports that he was approached by 3 to 4 males who were wearing hooded sweatshirts with their faces covered. At least one of the males began to assault the victim with a stick while demanding money. The victim was able to fight off the assailants, who then fled into a wooded area. Ledyard Police Officers, assisted by Troopers from Troop E and Officers from the Mashantucket Tribal Police Department searched the adjacent area. During a search by a Ledyard Police K9 unit, items related to this crime were located. Witness's indicate that a newer model white Honda with tinted windows was observed leaving the area immeditaly following this incident. The victim was transported to the WW Backus Hospital with facial injury as a result of this assault.

Motorcycle Accident
On June 20, 2009 at 5:55pm the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a motorcyle accident having occured on Avery Hill Rd Extension. Police, along with the Gales Ferry Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, and L&M Paramedic responded.

Lewis A. Morgan, 44, of 173 Whalehead received injuries and was transported to the hospital. As a result of this accident investigation Morgan was cited for Unreasonable Speed.

Head-on Accident
On June 22, 2009 at 0137hrs the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a head-on motor vehicle accident having occured on the Indiantown Rd section of RT 214. The Ledyard Police, Ledyard Center Fire Co, Mashantucket Pequot Fire Department, and American Ambulance responded to the scene.

Investigation found that a 2004 Jeep operated by James D. Lamphere 09/14/1984 of Niantic was traveling westbound on Route 214 when it crossed the center line, striking a 1993 Dodge Caravan traveling eastbound operated by Barry Olone 06/29/1957of Norwich head on. Olone was transported to the WW Backus Hospital for minor injury.

Lamphere was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive right. He was processed and released with a court date for GA 10 New London.

Vehicle Crash into Woods
On June 24, 2009 at approximately 0330hrs the Ledyard Police Department located a vehicle which had crashed into a wooded area on Christy Hill Rd near Baron Court in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard. Officers found that the vehicle operator, who was uninjured, had traveled off the roadway striking a CL&P pole guidewire, damaging the transformer, while also striking rocks and trees. Investigation led to the arrest of the vehicle operator and sole occupant. Robert J. Alonge DOB 10/05/1989 of 34 Washington Dr in Gales Ferry, was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Traveling Fast for conditions, and Failure to Drive Right. He was processed and released with a court date at GA 10 New London. As a result of this crash travel on Christy Hill Rd will be limited while repair work is conducted by CL&P.

Multiple Sclerosis Society’s “MS 150” Bicycle Fundraiser
On Saturday June 27, 2009, the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s “MS 150” Bicycle Fundraiser will be traveling through Ledyard from around noon through 4:00 PM. Approximately 800 bicyclists will be participating in the event. The ride will enter Ledyard on Shewville Road at the Preston Town Line. The cyclists will proceed south on Shewville Road, cross Rt. 214, continue south on Shewville Road, turn right on Gallup Hill Road, turn left onto Wendell Comrie Road, cross Pumpkin Hill Road, travel west on Lambtown Road, cross Colonel Ledyard Highway, continue west on Lambtown Road, and turn left on Route 117. The riders will then travel south on Route 117 into Groton. Residents are urged to use caution while traveling on the town roadways on Saturday. The Ledyard Police will be providing assistance for traffic safety during the event. Anyone with questions may call the Ledyard Police Department at 464-6400.

Car vs Tree accident
On June 29, 2009 at approximately 2355hrs the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a motor vehicle versus tree accident on Lantern Hill Rd near the North Stonington Town line. The Ledyard Center, Gales Ferry and Mashantucket Fire Departments, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, and Ledyard Police responded. Responders located a 1995 Subaru Legacy, operated by Jean Altieri 04/14/1967, had swerved to avoid a deer causing the vehicle to strike the tree. Two passengers in the vehicle received minor injuries and were trasnported to the Lawrence and Memroial Hospital.
